I had the privilege of assisting Sports Illustrated photographer Bill Frakes during the 136th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. Here are some of my favorite pictures that I shot during the Kentucky Oaks, which are the races the day before Derby. The pictures I shot the day of the Kentucky Derby are copyrighted by Sports Illustrated, so I am unable to post them.

Diehard New Orleans Saints fan, Ken Grose gets pumped two days prior to the Super bowl XLIV between the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts. Grose an Owensboro, Ky., junior has been a Saints fan since 1991. “I remember touching the New Orleans dome when I couldn’t afford a ticket, now I can’t believe it because I have been waiting for this game my whole life,” said Grose. © Brendan J. Darrel Wood, 55 of Bowling Green, “enjoys the weather” in his driveway on North Sunrise Street, with his cat “Lucky” on Tuesday after a long memorial day weekend of rain. In 1974 Wood became blind when his cousin accidently shot him in the side of Wood’s head with a 12 gage shotgun while rabbit hunting. Wood has been unemployed for several years and thinks it is a concern that there is so many limited locations where someone who is blind could work. © Brendan J. Sullivan
